Context compilation as an engineering discipline

A context window is a build target.

Early systems assemble it by concatenation: a prompt, retrieved chunks, whatever history fits. This works until the inputs compete. History crowds out the task. Retrieved text contradicts instructions. What fits governs what the system does.

Authority, freshness, and cost belong in the build rules.

When behaviour changes, compare the builds. The model will still surprise you. Know what you gave it.
